Wide Open Eyes

Lately I have been pondering about many issues in my life and those of others around me. I have also been thinking about things that perhaps most people don’t. These are the details that pass us by that perhaps would give more meaning to one’s life, but we ignore. Perhaps this ignorance is simply a way to feel accepted among the crowd. Or an intelligent way of relieving alienation. Whichever the viewpoint, it is a safe haven. It is an issue of personal significance that I’ve explored in my poems. It has been a long time since I wrote and the answer is hidden away in my poems because I cannot truly put it into words.

The only reason for being a professional writer is that you can’t help it.Leo Rosten

I See A Poem

Published February 7, 2012 by Malena

I see a poem
A piece of art work,
In design
A material
To serve a way
of life
A way of seeing,
To nurture a role
That of the hand
Connected to the mind
To stimulate imagination
Inside and outside integration
Giving an awe of light,
Temperature and air inside

Hand technology,
Empowering control
Movement,
Hand, body, mind
Reaching the spirit
A light
Apart from the body
I bear,
The role of the hand
The evolution of
society,
Care and quality
Stimulate the mind,
And curiosity,
With a sense of wonder,
of simple patterned,
Fine detail
I see a poem
Free of obstacles,
Power and direct control
Empowering the mind,
To reach unknown potential

A place, a scene,
I didn’t expect to be
In
I found something,
Unexpected
I left
And what remained
was a dream

I dreamed
And I floated
With my conscious Mind
My body,
I didn’t feel,
And I walked
With friendship
By my side
A Bond
Connected the bits
It was friendship,
Happy and free
I found this
to be
My dream
In
My past, present, and future
A distant dream
And the what I call reality
A distant dream
I create,
To shield my heart
I create a shell
of luminosity
for all to see
Clothes to bare,

They pull my skin
Together again
And create gravity
That bolts my body
In place
In a scene,
I didn’t expect to be
In

I Sang a Poem

Published January 29, 2012 by Malena

Reblogged from Oliman:

I sang a poem to the wind;
The wind carried my poem to the valleys;
The valleys took my poem to the mountains;
The mountains echoed my poem to the cliffs;
The cliffs passed my poem to the seas;
The seas threw my poem to the ocean;
The ocean roared my poem to the abyss;
The abyss sprung forth my poem to the continents;

The Dance That Walked Away

Published January 6, 2012 by Malena

It was long ago
I froze
Like a picture
I froze
Stage fright
In the middle of the night
A stage
Free for one
The dancer
No where in sight
I froze
And I didn’t bow
My head held high
In case
I was too late
To see my face
As the curtains died
And my dance walked away
In hope of another day

This poem is about stage fright, and timely for the theme of Carnival coming up in February. Watch the video and listen to the music along with the poem.

In different phases of my life I’ve had to get up and perform in one way or another. There were times when I wasn’t ready and I failed and this led the way for other days of triumphs! When I was 19 I went in a dance competition. I had the routine in my head and I practiced and practiced. As it turned out I wasn’t mentally prepared, and full of self-doubt I stood on the stage.

The music had started, and it was playing, but I froze. The music stopped, I look out at the audience, and at the people, and like a gentle appeal my eyes pleaded for mercy. And I simply walked away. After a few months there was another dance competition on.

Again I practiced and practiced, and I said to myself, ‘I’m going to get up there, do exactly what I’d planned.’ And the music played once more, and I did all the dance steps, resulting a win! It was the most amazing experience of my life, and unknown to me, a kind of life metaphor for more  ups and downs to come!

Stealing Hope

Hope,
Where would I be
Without hope
An opening,
I peek out
My eyes peek out
To see
The rest of me
Seeps low
A level of hope
That once said
It was the last time
We would meet
But I see you
Through the window
As I walk along the street
And I hope
As I see
You stealing
…. a peak
Hope,  it is what
Releases me
And it is hope
That grows
…. in me.
